SANYO Introduces the New Revolutionary and Versatile Ultra-short Focus
Projector with the World's Shortest Projection Distance*1
Optimal projection technology for the classroom, advertising, and the meeting room
Tokyo, June 13, 2007 - SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) announces the launch of a new and revolutionary projection technology that allows projection in a number of positions and on a number of untraditional surfaces - the LP-XL50 ultra-short focus projector. The new projector will be on sale in Japan from December 2007.
This projector will be on display at INFOCOMM 2007, an exhibition held in Anaheim, California from June 19 to June 21.

Last year SANYO launched the LP-XL40 projector fitted with an ultra-short focus lens capable of projecting images of 80 inches from a distance of 103 cm.
In order to attain large-screen image projection from an even shorter distance, SANYO developed a new propriety optical engine, shattering the traditional concept of a projector by shortening the distance required to project 80 inch images to a mere 8 cm.
Through this creativity and new projector technology, the world's first projector capable of projecting images easily onto meeting room tabletops or on the floor, increases and expands the usability of projection technology.
SANYO, through expanding its line-up of ultra-short focus projectors, will provide new solutions to the educational, digital signage (electronic advertising), and office markets.
Main features
- World's shortest projection distance*1 of 8 cm*2 allows 80 inch projection
- Optical engine for vertical or horizontal projection
- World's first projector allowing versatile use, including among others, floor space
projection, tabletop projection, and wall-mounted projection

Outline
The number of projectors shipped globally was, for Fiscal Year 2006, approximately 5,100,000 units. It is forecast (according to internal company research) the growing projector market will increase to 5,800,000 in Fiscal Year 2007, and 7,700,000 units shipped by the end of Fiscal Year 2009.
SANYO has a wide line-up and variety of projectors, from large-type, high-luminance, and high-definition models used in halls and theaters, to smaller, lighter mobile models used in offices and classrooms. SANYO has received particular acclaim for its big-screen large-projector models, in which SANYO holds the industry top share. SANYO will continue to proactively utilize its proprietary technology cultivated in these large-type projectors including image processing and optical engine technology, and apply the technology to mid- to small-size projectors, creating value-added products.
The LP-XL50 allows projection in many places that conventional projectors could not be used, such as projection on walls or on the floor or desktop by simply be placing the unit directly against the wall, or on the floor or on the desktop that will be projected on. Various uses for the projector include, but are not limited to: wall-mounted for projection on the wall (educational use), on desktop with downward projection onto the desktop, on the floor with projection downward onto open floor space, or projecting upwards onto the ceiling. Through these varying uses, the projector can be used as a new display tool for the office, for digital signage (electronic advertising), and for education, creating a more impressive ambience in various locations.
Detailed Explanation
In order for SANYO to shorten the projection distance of its projectors, new large diameter aspheric lens and high-precision aspheric mirror technology was developed. SANYO also developed a new optical engine, enabling an 80 inch projection from the short distance of only 8 cm*2. Through this, large projections from a short distance are possible, and projection is possible even in tight or small meeting rooms, creating a meeting opportunity in any room or space that is available.
*6 When using in cold or hot and humid environments use caution to prevent fogging and condensation caused by rapid temperature changes
Through the LP-XL50's proprietary optical and cooling (mechanism) technology, the projector can project vertically or horizontally.
The new optical engine developed for this projector was created with a high-precision aspheric mirror enabling large magnification from the lens's optical projection which has been wide-angle reflected and combined with a distortion correction mechanism lens. Through this engineering, even from an ultra-short distance, the image is large and not distorted, and because of the mirror the projection light direction has been changed and advanced, improving options for installation.
Additionally, in order to allow projection either vertically or horizontally, a special cooling mechanism became essential, and therefore, the projector adopts a one-way flow system consisting of an air intake and exhaust mechanism on the main body of the projector, allowing the optimal positioning of the main components.

World's first projector allowing versatile use, including among others, floor space
projection, tabletop projection, and wall-mounted projection
By making use of the main features of the LP-XL50's extremely wide angle and the short distance of projection needed, adding to traditional uses of projectors, many new and various types of applications and locations become available.
Various Use Scenarios- By projecting a large screen on the floor in a pre-school, a new style of teaching and classroom interaction can be created.
- Through installing the projector directly above the screen or blackboard in a classroom, the light that once entered the teachers' eyes and long shadows are a thing of the past.
- Using it as a tabletop projector and projecting onto the desk surface, designers and architects can see their designs more visually for review or additional inspiration.
- Department stores can use the projector to advertise products on sale in hallways or on open floor spaces, optimizing the use of all space available.
- In small offices or meeting rooms, the projector can be placed directly next to the wall and still project large screen images eliminating the need for large rooms to do small-audience presentations.
- The projector can be used at the entrance to the business or in lobbies, or even be used to project on ceilings to make announcements.
- Audio Alarm: Built-in vibration sensor alert, effective against theft
- Easy Off Function: The power cord may be removed without waiting for the machine to cool down. Convenient for clearing away.
- On-start Function: Possible to set power to turn on simply by plugging in the power cord, not necessary to use the remote control or on-board buttons.
- Color Board Mode: When projecting on a wall or surface that is colored (non-white), it will appear as though the projected image is being projected on a white surface because of the adjustable hue.
- Blackboard (Green board) Mode: Enables educational institutions to use the projector with all standardized educational boards.
- Top and Bottom Keystone Correction Function.
