Overview
Since introducing a digital movie camera in 1998, SANYO has provided cameras that users can carry with users anytime and anywhere to shoot both beautiful still images and video easily using only one camera. These cameras are tools to capture those memorable moments for the future.

With the Xacti C series, SANYO proposed a new style of camera, with a compact body small enough to carry in your pocket, that enables users to shoot both still images and movies easily with one hand. These cameras have received high marks from market evaluations, due the ability to record movies in MPEG-4, a format that is widely used by personal computer users. Regarding the market attention to televisions, along with the wide-spread use of digital broadcasting through the expansion of televisions capable of high-definition, the marketplace for large-screen, high-definition televisions is advancing.

In an effort to expand along with the burgeoning market of high-definition televisions, SANYO released the world’s first MPEG-4 function compatible high-definition digital movie camera*4, Xacti DMX-HD1, in February 2006, followed by the Xacti DMX-HD1A, which started sales in September, 2006.

SANYO is releasing for sale the further advanced high-resolution, high-definition digital movie camera, Xacti DMX-HD2, which includes increased operability and functionality.

*4: For consumer-use high-definition video camera category, (January 11, 2006)

Main features
1. High-resolution 7.1-Megapixel still images and Pocket-sized high-definition digital movie camera are now possible
Although high-definition capable, because the DMX-HD2 is compact and lightweight DMX-HD2, at only about 200 cc and 210 *5, it can be carried around easily in a shirt or pant’s pocket or in a handbag. The DMX-HD2 is designed to shoot and view high-resolution pictures without changing from movie-mode to still-mode. Because of this function, users can*6 capture high-resolution 7.1-Megapixel still images while filming high-definition video.

Additionally, the DMX-HD2 is capable of using an 8GB SDHC memory card, which makes up to 2 hours and 50 minutes*7 of high-definition quality*8 recording possible.
*5: Camera body only
*6: In still image mode, images may be recorded with video paused.
*7: For one file continuous recording can be recorded a maximum of 1 hour 25 minutes
*8: In HD-HQ mode

2. Simultaneous shooting*3 of high-definition video and 7.1-Megapixel, high-resolution still images
In order to make simultaneous shooting possible, this camera features an advanced version of the SANYO-developed Platinum Engine used in the DMX-HD1/1A, the upgraded ‘Platinum Engine II’, a high-definition, high-speed image processing LSI.

By strengthening the noise-reduction function, the user can easily film or take still images of scenes even in what appears to be low-light conditions. This camera is able to take movies in low-light intensity of only 7 lux*9, and has two times low-light sensitivity than previous models*10. For photographs, the camera is able to take high-resolution images up to ISO1600.

When necessary, low-light sensitive*11 high-resolution images and movies can be taken by simply pressing the ‘High-sensitivity Mode’ button, located on the body of the camera. Additionally, along with the use of a new engine, by conserving electric power through the optimization of the circuits and the review of the camera in its entirety, SANYO was able to improve battery-use time by approximately 13 percent *10 compared to previous models, as well as allow the movie recording time to be increased by approximately 85 minutes*12.

*9: In High-sensitivity Mode
*10: When compared with HD1A
*11: Up to ISO800 in still picture mode
*12: In HD-SHQ mode

3. D4 output compatible: enables enjoyment of clear video and high-resolution still images on a high-definition TV*3.
The camera comes with a docking station that allows the user to simply enjoy high-resolution still pictures and high-definition movies by only placing the camera in the cradle. Because the docking station has a built-in HDMI terminal matching the type used in recent high-definition televisions, users can easily enjoy their high-definition movies and high-resolution pictures by only attaching one cable*13. There is also a D4 terminal available for connection, and if using S-video cable, then images and movies can be saved on DVD recorders and VTR systems by direct connection*14.}

*13: HDMI cable sold separately
*14: Depending on user model

4. Other features
Edit movies without a computer / Includes Web-compatible recording mode
Edit movies without a computer / Includes Web-compatible recording mode

Even without using a computer, movies recorded on location can be easily edited. Users can easily compile various scenes into one single movie, and can edit movies by cutting unneeded parts using the options in the camera. This is especially useful in cutting unnecessary scenes, where the user can now easily cut and adjust to connect previous scenes with later scenes fluidly, a process that normally is very complicated. Because the editing menu based on bar graphs is visually easy to understand, hassle-free editing is now possible.
Also, the filmed data can be used on the internet without being converted because the camera incorporates a web-use filming mode, including Web-SHQ and Web-HQ.

Includes: Ulead DVD MovieWriter 5.0 SE, enabling easy editing and saving of movies

Using a computer with Ulead DVD MovieWriter 5.0 SE installed, high-definition movies taken by the DMX-HD2 can be easily and conveniently edited. The files that have been edited can be saved in their MPEG-4 format directly to the PC or DVD. MTP function.

High-sensitivity Mode

Equipped with one-touch ‘High-sensitivity Mode’ button for movies and pictures requiring low-light sensitivity.

Super-fast start up

The Xacti HD2 high-definition video camera is designed for super fast start-up and shooting. With no tape to queue, simply open the display and the HD2 automatically powers up and is ready to record in as little as 1.7 seconds.

Image Stabilization

The SANYO Xacti HD2 features digital image stabilization that works across the full shooting range from wide-angle to telephoto. Using an original corrective algorithm developed by SANYO, the HD2 is able to distinguish between “trembling hands” and “camera work” such as panning and tilting.

1280 x 720 progressive HD video scanning

Thanks to highly efficient MPEG-4 technology, the HD2 is able to create richly detailed high-definition 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) videos at 30 frames per second. That’s up to three times more pixels than standard conventional video cameras.

High-definition engine

The SANYO Xacti HD2 is powered by high-precision LSI (large-scale integration) circuitry for advanced, high-definition image processing. This powerful “high-definition engine” processes a vast number of calculations and enables the HD2 to provide image processing functions such as high-definition 720p processing, real-time MPEG-4 compression and noise reduction.

Super-fast 9Mbs frame rate

The SANYO HD2 high-definition digital video camera features an accelerated frame rate in the HD mode that is more than four times faster than earlier digital cameras. Transmitting data at 9 megabits per seconds ensures that camera and subject motion are smooth and natural, without the image lag or distortion that might occur in slower-responding systems.

10x optical zoom

The HD2 features a generous and highly efficient 10x optical zoom lens. Built from 12 elements designed in 9 groups and with a built-in neutral density filter, the 10x zoom lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5 in both wide and telephoto angles, allowing for clear images in lower light situations. Combined with a 10x digital zoom capability, the HD2 is capable of a total 100x zoom.

2.2-inch LCD display

The HD2 features a large SANYO-developed 2.2-inch LCD display with 210,000 total pixels for exceptionally clear viewing. The display flips out from the camera and rotates up to 285 degrees on axis for taking great video or still images even in difficult locations.

Video recording optimized for personal media players

The HD2’s “Web-SHQ” recording mode is designed specifically to capture video destined for video iPod and other popular MPEG-4 capable personal media players. For optimal playback on such devices, video is captured at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and a smooth and natural 30 frames per second.

16:9 still shooting

A selectable 16:9 shooting mode allows users to capture stills in the same widescreen format as their high-definition videos for eye-catching viewing on a 16:9 television screen.

Very small, very light

Lightweight at only 8.3 ounces (including battery and a standard SD memory card), the HD2 measures 3.1" W x 4.7" H x 1.4" D.
