Expanding the eneloop world with
the “eneloop universe”
New Products for Sale: Tap into the Power of the Sun with
the “Solar Charger” and the
Non-disposal “Rechargeable Hand Warmer” |

| Tokyo, Oct. 31, 2006-----SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO), the world
leader in rechargeable batteries, announces the sale of two new products.
First, the “eneloop solar charger”, which can charge eneloop
batteries with power generated from the sun, will start sales from
November. Second, the rechargeable “eneloop kairo” (hand
warmer) will be launched in December. These products are based on
the company’s ‘Think GAIA’ vision, expanding the
new ‘eneloop’ lifestyle - one that eliminates the need
to dispose of batteries.
SANYO plans to continue to enlarge its ‘eneloop universe’
based on the company’s ‘Think GAIA’ vision, proposing
an existence compatible with enriched life and the environment,
through Global Energy Solutions and LOHAS Solutions (Lifestyles
of Health and Sustainability).

| eneloop is a product based on the concept of ‘energy looping’.
Since the eneloop AA-size batteries debuted as the first Think GAIA
product in November 2005, SANYO has introduced one eneloop product
after another in the series, proposing a new lifestyle of eliminating
battery disposal. eneloop, with its “Ready-to-use right out
of the package” usability similar to dry cell batteries, can
be charged again and again. The battery has been received very positively
by the market, as the recharging capability not only offers economical
benefits, but at the end of its life, the eneloop can eventually be
recycled. After only being on sale for just 10 short months, over
10 million eneloop batteries have already been sold world-wide.

Charging ‘eneloop’ batteries with
sunlight
|
With no need to use a power outlet, eneloop batteries
can be charged entirely from the sun’s energy. This product
is the epitome of clean energy. The design, in contrast to traditionally
shaped battery charging units, takes the shape of a stylish-looking
pyramid. Based on the location of the sun in the sky, the charger
may be angled to one of two positions. |

Utilizing SANYO’s Advanced ‘HIT Solar Cell*1’
Technology
|
| The eneloop solar charger includes SANYO’s unique
technology in HIT solar cells, Lithium-ion batteries and eneloop rechargeable
batteries. |

(image of power charging) |
The photovoltaic cells used in this product are SANYO’s
unique “HIT Solar Cell Panels”, which can also be found
on homes around the world. SANYO is very proud that its solar panels
are the world’s best*3 in energy conversion efficiency more
than any other mass-produced solar cell. There are three high-quality
cylindrical Lithium-ion batteries similar to the ones found in notebook
computers, where the energy obtained through the solar cells is stored.
After completely charging the Lithium-ion battery once, it is possible
to rapidly charge 1 to 4 AA and AAA-sized eneloop batteries. It is
also possible to mix AA and AAA-sized batteries in the charger and
charge them at the same time.

Charging time for AA rechargeable batteries is approximately
2 hours and 30 minutes for 1 to 2 batteries, and approximately 5 hours
for 3 to 4 batteries. Charging time for AAA rechargeable batteries
is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes for 1 to 2 batteries, and approximately
2 hours and 30 minutes for 3 to 4 batteries.
The current charge of the enclosed Lithium-ion battery and the eneloop
batteries can be checked by looking at the LED recharging lamp found
on the surface of the charger. *3: Based
upon company tests as of Oct. 2006, the actual conversion rate of
mass-produced HIP-200B cells is 19.7%. |
| 3. |
Capable of utilizing the sun’s energy via an external
USB power connection |
| The stored solar energy in the Lithium-ion battery can
be used to power other devices (compatible with a USB port), because
the charger includes a USB external port. |
| eneloop kairo (hand warmer) |
| 1. |
The hand warmer that you don’t throw away –
just recharge and use again |
| The eneloop kairo is a hand warmer fitted with an internal
Lithium-ion rechargeable battery, allowing it to be recharged approximately
500 times if the adapter is connected to an AC outlet. |

High-precision temperature control through micro-controlling
PTC Heater*2. |
The PTC Heater integrated thermostat technology adjusts
and stabilizes the temperature to prevent the device heating beyond
the temperature you desire.
The eneloop kairo can be adjusted to 2 settings: high and low. These
settings can be adjusted any time by the user to match needs at the
time. |
