Inviting American Sales Reps to Japan

Inviting American Sales Reps to Japan
During his stay in the U.S., Toshio Decided to invite selected American sales representatives and wholesalers of SANYO transistor radios to Japan as an incentive award About 400 sales reps and their families visited Japan for two weeks and the bill was picked up by SANYO and the U.S. company. For their first week in Japan, Toshio showed them around SANYO factories and Tokyo. The second week was filled with trips to sightseeing spots around the Kansai area. During their time in Japan, Toshio invited the Americans to his home in Kobe for an evening of drinks and entertainment. Refreshment booths were set up throughout his large garden and a fireworks display was organized. Everyone had a lovely evening and expressed their appreciation to Toshio for a truly great holiday. Many felt that the hospitality they received was usually reserved for heads of state, and commented that even President Eisenhower couldn't have been treated better. By bringing American sales reps to Japan, Toshio succeeded in improving business operations. As a result, export of transistor radios surpassed one million units. The holiday incentive package also significantly contributed to strengthening Japan-U.S. relations.
